Business Process Modeling
Genova is experienced in both creating Business Process Models where none exist and performing gap analyses to update existing models.
In creating “as is” business process models, Genova’s analysts meet with subject matter experts (SMEs) from both the business process owners as well as the systems groups who are responsible for performing the final processes and supporting the processes. We also take the opportunity at this time to review existing business process models related to the projects in question.
After all aspects of the processes are thoroughly researched and reviewed, Genova’s analysts create models using Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN). Often the models will contain several levels of detail depending on the scope of work being done and the level of granularity desired. Included with these are more detailed business process models & data flow diagrams. At this point our analysts return the models to the subject matter experts to be reanalyzed for accuracy.
The process of documenting models is highly iterative and involves a number of checkpoints with subject matter experts as the business processes are further clarified. Diagrams of models are supported by narrative that describes the key characteristics of the processes and the business rules, requirements and constraints identified while assembling the model.
After completing “as is” models, Genova works with business owners to discuss opportunities for enhancing business processes through re-engineering. Typically new functionality and/or solutions that leverage available new or existing technology are recommended.
A gap analyses are performed to determine where updates impact Business Process Models and how to smoothly interface them with the “to be” models. Genova investigates the accepted tools, standards and infrastructure already in place that can be leveraged in this business process. After potential updates are agreed upon, “to be” Business Process Models are created and supporting narratives updated.
