As you may know, last Thursday was International Women’s Day. In honor of the occasion, Genova Technologies invited the women in our office to say a little something. Over the next few days, we will post what our female employees have to say. We will start with Michaela, one of our younger engineers.

Who inspired you to become an Engineer?
No one really inspired my engineering career. Rather, I found my knack with computers and engineering drew me in. What I did have was inspiring women that showed me I could do anything.
I have always had strong women in my life, but my dad’s mom has to be the strongest of them all. Currently in her mid-70’s, she runs the farm, taking care of the cattle, and creating wood crafts that she sells at craft fairs in the area. She proves to me a woman can do anything every day and I don’t see that changing any time soon.

A piece of advice for aspiring young female Engineers?
Don’t shy away from working with other female engineers. Surprisingly, this is very common in classes of very few females (research backs it up). I had a female classmate and didn’t talk to her until AFTER two classes with her.

What has been most rewarding to you in your journey?
Being able to say I started my dream job (at Genova) at the age of 23.

How you balance all of the demands on your time?
I try not to let anything get over balanced. Not having kids really comes in handy with this.
