Genova has hired three interns for the summer, and we thought it would be fun to introduce them, and ask about their experience to date with Genova.

What interested you about Genova and our work?
Jacob: I’m very interested in working with embedded systems. Also, Genova is in Cedar Rapids where I grew up.
Abby: Working with embedded systems and the small company aspect

What skills do you bring to Genova?
Abby: Problem solving. Experience with Operating Systems
Luke: Problem-solving, adaptability

What excites you most about being a part of Genova?
Jacob: The most exciting part is to be able to experience how software is developed in the real world.
Luke: Learning about and working on projects that interest me while being a part of a friendly environment.

What do you expect to gain this summer?
Jacob: I expect to learn how software development works in the real world. In school we don’t get a chance to deal with large projects and large teams.
Luke: I am expecting to gain experience in the field, learn new technical skills, and apply skills I have already learned in the classroom.

Why software engineering?
Jacob: Its fun, Interesting and has a nice paycheck
Abby: I really love programming and constantly learning and problem solving.

What has been your favorite class so far in your degree?
Abby: Operating Systems
Luke: Data Structures and Algorithms

Where do you see yourself after graduation?
Jacob: I see myself working as a software engineer doing something with either embedded systems or operating systems
Luke: Well prepared to take the next step in my career and grow in a professional position.

Do you have any extracurriculars or projects?
Abby: I participate in UNI’s Women in Computing. Currently we are working on a conference to have on campus in October.
Luke: I play golf at Coe College and participate in Computer Science Club

What’s the most useless talent you have?
Jacob: I can kind of wiggle my ears
Abby: Hula hooping

If you were a coding language, which one would you be? Why?
Jacob: I would be a Groovy script because I’m hella groovy.
Abby: Python. I am easy to get along with. I like keeping things simple while getting a lot done.
